Community is where it all began. Our Facebook group, “Inuit Living in BC”, is an active and supportive space for Inuit across the province. Here, members share resources, ask questions, celebrate achievements, and uplift one another.

Did you know?
There is recognition of a fifth Inuit region by Statutes of Canada 2019. Chapter 24. An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth and families. According to Tungasuvvingat Inuit, (Ottawa TI) on April 10, 2019 in reference to Bill C-92, an Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis children, youth, and families.
Non-Nunangat Inuit are defined as: the Fifth Region – Non -Nunangat Inuit region. There must be consideration for the Inuit who are no longer living in or members of their respective land claim. With approximately 40% of Inuit (self identified ancestry) there is a growing number of Inuit who are not connected to Inuit culture and identity. We are grateful guests on the lands of First Nations People
We recognize, honor, and uphold the inherent rights and title of First Nations within the territories now called British Columbia. As Inuit, we are visitors to these lands, and it is our responsibility to follow the protocols of the territories where we live and gather.
With deep respect, we share our intentions: to actively support the health, social, justice, and education needs of Inuit living in BC, while walking respectfully alongside the First Peoples of these lands.
We as Inuit recognize that we are guests on these lands and we commit to investing in, and partnering with First Nations Businesses, Organizations and Infrastructure over Non-Indigenous Partners.
We as Inuit claim no right to lands or culture of which we are a guest. We seek to affirm and uphold Indigenous Sovereignty, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and Action Plan in all spaces. The purpose and intent of this collective is to facilitate access to social services and support to Inuit Living in BC.
We recognize that many Inuit are displaced from home as a result of historical and ongoing colonial violence, not limited to 60s Scoop, Indian Hospitals, Dayschools, and ongoing systemic discrimination in the health system.
We also wish to support and facilitate connections of Inuit living in BC to Inuit Organizations, Corporations, Nations, And all Relevant Services.
